The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Wednesday, 4th November, 2020 said the local government election would commence as soon as the state electoral commission is formed.

Abiodun disclosed this during an interactive ‘Ogun Youth-Government Townhall Meeting’, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The governor, who spoke on the theme, ‘Youth, Skills and Insecurity: Connections, Costs, and Opportunities, said what the state would be having “is an election and not a selection.”

He charged youths to be part of the process and show leadership by endearing themselves to their people and registering with political parties.

“We will soon be constituting the Ogun State Electoral Commission, the commission has to be established first because they are the ones that will conduct the local government election and this will happen very soon. They will roll out the timetable for the local government elections,” he said.

On the State government’s plan to empower 250 youths across each of the 20 local government areas of the state, Abiodun said the OG-YES initiative will be giving the beneficiaries a token every month.
