APC FEDERAL NEC MEETING.

During its emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, December 8, the All Progressives Congress (APC) took some key decisions on new defectors ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The ruling party granted a waiver to some persons who recently joined its fold, making them eligible to contest elections on its platform, Punch reports.

Among those who will benefit from this waiver are Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi and Yakubu Dogara, a former speaker of the House of Representatives.

APC carries out massive shakeup, sacks party structures nationwide. Going by this offer, Umahi and Dogara will not have to wait for a number of years before being qualified to vie for any elective office.

The resolve of the APC, among others, was disclosed to State House correspondents in Abuja by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The Kaduna governor stated:

“The second resolution is that NEC has approved the granting of waivers to persons who have recently joined the party members and those desirous of joining the party in the nearest future.

“By this, such new members will enjoy all the benefits and privileges accruable by virtue of their membership of the party.

“So, they will be able to contest for positions in the party. They will be able to contest elections without any requirement of being members for a number of years or period of time.”

Earlier, the APC held an emergency NEC meeting on Tuesday, December 8, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to the presidential aide on new media, Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, APC governors attended the meeting physically.

Prominent among the governors in attendance are Mai Mala Buni, Yobe governor and APC caretaker committee chairman, and Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi who doubles as the chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).
